In the immortal words of songstress Sheryl Crow, sometimes “a change would do you good.”

Fortunately for Denny Hamlin, he got just the change he needed during the closing laps of the STP 400 at Kansas Speedway.

When the sun’s beams shot through the clouds and warmed up the racing surface, Hamlin’s No. 11 Fed Ex Ground Toyota got a kickstart that put him in position to win his first race at the Kansas track.

And while lap leader Martin Truex, Jr. unquestionably had the dominant car, the sun for him was less-than welcome.

It just goes to show fans can never underestimate the power of random happenings to dictate the outcome of any given race.
