Howard Hitchcock, President of Lionel Racing, announced today that the company has reached an agreement with Icons, Inc. to become the exclusive distributor of University of Racing die-cast.
Under the University of Racing brand, Icons, Inc. manufactures die-cast replicas of the most important cars in the history of NASCAR – from Cale Yarborough’s 1965 Ford Galaxie and David Pearson’s 1971 Mercury Cyclone to A.J. Foyt’s 1969 Torino Cobra.
“The quality and authenticity of the University of Racing cars is amazing,” said Hitchcock. “You can feel the passion and love for real racing in each car.”
“This new distribution agreement isn’t just a win for Lionel. It’s also a win for collectors as now the die-cast of the sport’s biggest legends will be available through more channels than ever before.”
Under the terms of the new agreement, Lionel Racing will be responsible for inventory management, shipping, and sales of all University of Racing die-cast, in addition to the street cars and novelty items produced by Icons, Inc.
“I’m more excited than ever about what the future holds now that Lionel Racing – The Official Die-Cast of NASCAR – will be our exclusive distribution partner,” said Phil Blount, President of Icons, Inc.
“These are the cars that built our sport and now they will be seen by more race fans than ever before, as they truly deserve to be. The stories of these amazing cars and their fearless drivers are timeless and magical. They’ll stir memories that will last forever!”
